PHOTO-ESSAY ENTRY
Whether or not a picture is worth a thousand words, the challenge here is to eschew verbosity and engage the power of images. Amongst political and legal rhetoric and argumentation about peace and justice, the truth may yet emerge from artistic modes of expression which, by reaching beyond the dominant discourses framed by major institutions, resonate with human interaction and understanding.
The artform chosen for this project is the photo-essay, which can illustrate a perspective, take a stance, and tell a story--just like a regular essay, but in photographs instead of words (see some exemplars). Your photo-essay can be completely word-less or accompanied by short captions, can be a temporal record of your geo-caching adventure or a non-linear narrative on a theme of your choice, and can be in any colour, of any length, and by any instrument.
There are some submission requirements, however:
If your photo-essay is selected for exhibition in The Nutshuis, you will be contacted by mid-March so that your work can be produced in high resolution. Please therefore retain your original and edited images, which may also be needed for e-publication in +HIP.
